Winds: SE 5
Seas: 1-2 ft
Surf Temp: 86 F
Viz: 50+ ft
We started out today with less than perfect conditions. Although the wind was extremely nominal, our first spot didn't have perfect viz (and it was only in 19 feet of water). We were able to pick out some nice mangoes, but they were not extremely large. There were plenty to pick from, but you did have to be picky. After shooting about 20 (from our bag limit of 30), we decided to move on to see if we could find some better water and bigger fish.

We moved around but stayed close and were not rewarded with much. After diving those nearby spots for a short while, we decided to head further west. We headed out into deeper water for the run to the west and found a lot of bait fish right on a tide line as well as some bird activity. I jumped in just to see if there was anything under the weeds, but unfortunately found nothing. We were in about 75 feet of water and I could easily see the bottom once I dove down to about 35 feet. Unfortunately, I didn't see any fish.

We kept going west and were able to jump in on some patch reefs (some we scouted as we headed west and others we had marked previously) and gather up a few more mangoes, but more importantly, a couple of nice groupers. One a red grouper that my brother-in-law shot and the other a black that I had to wrestle out of a hole in about 35 feet of water.  Luckily, the current had started to die down a little just about the time I had to start fighting this fish out of the hole. She did bend my shaft, but at least I was able to straighten it out.
