First weekend back and it was both hard work and fun. It took us a little longer than usual to setup this weekend because we went back to our old campground this year and we are on somewhat smaller sites compared to last year. We did prevail however and got all setup with a little time left for a dive on Saturday. We headed out looking for clean water because we knew that we had missed the tide. Things didn't look too promising at first, but as we headed further offshore, the water turned from a hazy green to a beautiful crystal clear blue. Unfortunately, that was the best part of the trip. Not much could have probably kept us out of the water that day (with it being my first day back this summer), but we got there late and couldn't go where we thought the fish were, so we ended up with a couple of fish. At least there was enough for dinner.

Sunday morning comes and we head out around 10:00am to check out the tidal action. We figured there was about an hour of incoming tide left. Unfortunately, the full moon messed us up a little bit and when we came back the tide was almost completely slack.  We spent the next 45 minutes in the area with 30 of them spent fighting the outgoing tide. We saw more than a few nice hogs but we also kept seeing numerous black grouper so we both passed up on hogs we might have otherwise shot in the hopes that we wouldn't be giving up that one shot on the big black. We did see a couple of big blacks but they were a little to spooked to let us get too close and they would head into the current the second they could make us out. We managed to get a couple of grouper (see the pics), but not the big ones that we did see (and want). Oh well, hopefully they will be just a little bigger when we do get back there.
