Finally, we get to start out a new year of diving and spearfishing! We had been waiting for a few days of calm winds for the water to clean up. We had been putting up with 20-25 mph winds and dirty water for almost 2 weeks until last week.

We headed out just before high tide around 8am to see if we could catch some clean water around slack tide which was due to be around 9am. We put in at Sundays over on Key Biscayne and headed straight out to the ocean side of the key. The water looked a little dirty as we headed out, but we kept on going because we were still in the channel and we figured the tide was still making the water a little less than optimal.

We jumped in the first time in about 24 feet. The water hadn't cleaned up just yet, but it looked promising. We ended up swimming around for over an hour and I only took 2 shots. I hit on both, one a hogfish and the other the grouper in this week's picture. After that we kept looking for a while and finally ended up moving on. I only took one other shot in about 25 feet and got the ocean tally (the other one in this weeks picture).

Not our most productive dive, but very few things would make me pass up on the chance. Hopefully this is just the beginning of another fun year!
