I am very excited to have another year of spearfishing and freediving just about ready to begin. Last year we were able to get a couple of winter dives in with some pretty decent results, so we hope to do even more of that this winter. As soon as the weather permits, we will be donning our wetsuits and jumping in for some fun getting back into shape for the summer ahead.

We might be exploring some entirely new areas of the waters off the lower and middle keys this coming summer. We may be heading a little farther up the keys this year, with some diving possibly off  of Grassy and Long Keys. Unfortunately, this is not so much an adventurous decision as much as it is a matter of lodging. Campgrounds in the keys are few and far between now, and some are just getting a little too expensive for a regular joe to afford, so a move may be precipitated. As soon as our plans solidify, I will be posting it here.

I've given my guns some well deserved (overdue) servicing time during this past off-season. And even though my guns look great now, I sure hope I haven't cleaned the fish-mojo out of them :)! What can I say, the only person more superstitious than a sports fan (that I am), is a fisherman (can you say double-whammy?).

Even though we always check our gear whenever we go out, it's a good idea (even if I don't always do it), to take your guns apart and make sure all their moving parts are in good working order. But this year I refinished almost all of my stocks, so they will hopefully give me even more years of faithful service. A little teak cleaner, a scouring pad and some teak oil and the original beauty of these guns has almost completely been brought back to life!

That's all for now. May your breath be long and your water be clear and blue!
