Thank goodness that weathermen (or weatherpersons, don't want to be sexist) don't know shit from shine! The weather reports for this weekend would have had you believe that it wasn't even worth going out this weekend, but this was one of the nicest calmest days, in recent weeks. As we headed out the flag on the campground pole was barely flapping so we hauled ourselves out to some of our favorite closer spots and jumped right in.

We didn't shoot tons of fish in the way of numbers, but everything we shot was very good size. We were seeing grouper everywhere. There were multiple fish in almost every hole we peeked in. We had a very productive day and so did our hook and line friends! They hit on some very nice dorado (check out the pics) while we were busy spearing our own catch.

We worked it very hard and swam like hell, but in the end it sure was worth it. I even got a two-fer! Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Last spot of the day, tide's already switched and starting to really wear us down. I spot a legal grouper in a hole so my brother-in-law and I check it out a couple of times just to be sure it's a good size. The fish was obviously suspicious, because everytime I broke the surface of the water, she clouded up the hole!

After verifying we thought it was legal, we kept waiting for the hole to clean up, but the current was really starting to kick up. I finally decided to take a blind shot in the hole, and BAM! I got her! I started to work her out, and finally was able to do so. I gilled her so she couldn't swim away with my gun and my brother-in-law gave me a hand by diving down to get my shaft out of the hole when he realized that there was another grouper on the shaft! We finally got her out too and were very happy to find that both groupers were not only legal, but very good size. Like I said, better to be lucky than good...
